Scotland Wedding at Dunnottar Castle
Sarah and Kevin just tied the knot in the most incredible place: the place the term “tying the knot”
originated from: Scotland! I don’t think I’ll ever get over this wedding or trip; it was just incredible.
Kevin grew up with a picture of Dunnottar Castle in his grandparents’ house; it was the Clan Keith’s castle, and his mother
was a Keith. He loved looking at it as a boy and wished he could go visit one day. If I’ve got the story
right, the castle conversation had never come up until after Kevin and Sarah were engaged. They were
thinking about wedding locations and this crazy idea came to them; what if we could get married by
Dunnottar!
Getting married on a Tuesday might seem a little different, but the date was chosen because it would make three family wedding anniversaries all in a row that week.
Sarah did a ton of research and found the best flights, an estate to stay at, and phenomenal vendors to help
bring the dream to life. She wore a dress (and sleeves) inspired by her childhood girl crush, Arwen from
Lord of the Rings. Kevin brought his own suit but ended up finding the perfect tweed one in Edinburgh a
few days before the wedding. Sarah gave creative license to the florist, and Hays Flowers went above and beyond,
Sarah was so happy. Tim and I got there early and were able to scout out the shooting locations the day before. I can honeslty say the Scottish forrest is one of the most magical things I’ve ever seen.
“I can’t say enough about how well they treated
everyone”
The estate everyone stayed at was called Glen Dye, and I can’t say enough about how well they treated
everyone. And the food Glen Dye catered was fabulous! The castle is open to the public during the day, so
Kevin and Sarah opted to have their intimate ceremony in the forest of Glen Dye, and then we all traveled
to the castle for pictures. The weather is very predictably unpredictable in Scotland, so I didn’t know what
I would get as far as lighting throughout the day. There was a great mix of sun and clouds and no rain at
all, just perfect! And even the midges (mosquito-type bug) that everyone warned us about stayed
away. The evening was filled with yummy food, and lovely toasts shared by all.
